Frontosas are probably my favorite fish, with Dempseys coming in a close second. I've kept all kinds, burundi, kigoma, ubwari, ikola, mpimbwe, zambian and now I have some zaire blue kapampa. They are an awesome fish and I highly recommend giving them a shot if you have the chance. Here are some pics of mine.

I find frontosa to be one of the more gorgeous african cichlids available. I want to give them a try at some point. What does a 3" and a 6" specimen usually run you price wise?

| It depends on the variant of frontosa, it can range from $5-100. |

| Your yellow Labs in the 3rd picture have very nice color. I'm tired of seeing the pale yellow ones in all the pet stores near me. |

| Thanks. I've been searching for some quality labs. There are tons of labs, but not a lot of good ones. |

I moved my kapampas to my dad's tank and went with some wild Bismarks. They are just awesome.

I have 4, They get along good with my JD's. They grow sooooo slow! Ive had them about 6 months or so and they are still about 2" maybe a little under. I bought them at an auction sold as "bismark Frontosa" four for $15. i did some research to find out the exact type but was never sure. This is my favorite african fish and the only one i have kept in the last few years. Plan to give a shot at breeding them a few years down the road, I hear its a little more complicated.
Pics inc later maybe you can tell me what kind they are.
Nice Pic JT i love that tank. And great looking fish. |

| Thanks. If you get me a picture I can let you know if it is a Bismark or not. Frontosa aren't hard to breed it just takes time(3 years to maturity) and a bigger tank(min. 75 gal.) |

JT,
That in-wall 125g looks so familiar. I think i remember seeing it somewhere. Is your dad a member of CM or another forumn? Or have you posted it here before? |

I've posted it on www.cyphos.com(a frontosa site) and probably at cichlid-forum. It's my tank and it was a fun project building it into the wall. It isn't all that difficult to do either from scratch which is how I did it, or building it into an existing wall, which I helped a friend do.
Your frontosa is a very nice fish, and I've found their temperment and diet meshes well with EBJDs especially while younger. It isn't a bismark however. It is a sp. North type frontosa. Most likely it is a Burundi. You can tell by the first eye stripe. On burundi it goes straight through. On a bismark the stripe moves up to the eye and across to the other eye like a mask, and not up to the top of the head. You can see that on the pictures of my Mpimbwe an example. |
