Among the thousands of Blue Gene dempseys that I have hatched in the last few months, I discovered one solitary little fellow that has a solid black tail. Ironically, I had thrown him into the "shark" tank to get eaten, along with hundreds of others. He somehow survived the night, and while cleaning the tank the next day, I discovered him hiding under a piece of drift wood. I had seen a photo of one other one of these posted on a website somewhere (don't recall if it was this one). Mine is about 1"+, and I am raising him in with a batch of EBJDs that are about 1-1/4" to 2" long. I hope to keep it going long enough to raise up and breed. I would like to obtain some Gold Dempseys of about 1 to 1/1/2" that I could raise with him, and hopefully breed with it someday. I have no shortage of EBJDs nor BGs at the moment. _________________ jayr.mcclellan@gmail.com

Another forum member had one of these a while back. I believe it was skwestle.
I'm not 100% sure what happened to it, but I think it grew out of that color phase as it matured. |

| I believe he lost it. Congrats on breeding the EBs and BGs. |

Thank you, one and all for your responses. Auratum, special thanks to you for the website. The fish pictured is almost identical to the one I have. I've thrown it in with some EBs that are just a little larger. The black tailed fish is about 1"+ at the moment, and seems to be doing well. It is the only BG type among the EBs, so if it loses it black tail color, at least I will have no doubt about it.
Of the thousands of BGs that I have produced in the last year, this is the only one I have found with the black tail. The other problem is that I have four females breeding with seven different males, cranking out as many as six spawns a month in a community (colony) environment, so don't know exactly which pair produced the little guy. I do know that it came from a BG X BG mating. _________________ jayr.mcclellan@gmail.com

By the way,
I have sent a private message to Sunvest to try to find out what happened to his black tailed fish, whether it lived, died, or changed color. I wait anxiously his response...Whatever the case, I intend to breed this little feller if he survives long enough to do so. _________________ jayr.mcclellan@gmail.com

| Whenever I've had the blacktail show up on a fish, the fish has always perished. It's happened to me about 10 times. |
