Hello friends, I have a 55 gallon: 1EBJD, 1 Pink kissing gourami, 1 pleco, 2 cory cats, and 4 red tip tinfoil barbs. For some reason my EBJD never comes to the surface to eat and always waits at the bottom for the scraps. He's about 2" now and has had some eye problems in the past but they seem to have cleared up. If i were to get rid of my Pink Kissing gourami (king of the tank) would my EBJD become more active and come to the surface more? He also seems to not be growing really at all. He looks healthy, but he's been 2" for about 5 months now. I feed him cichlid flakes and Dainichi sinking pellets

Thanks!

Add a photo if you can.

Most of my JD's won't come to the surface to eat. I use sinking pellets. You could try frozen or live food once or twice a week to get it more interested in eating.

It's strange that it hasn't grown in 5 months. There is something wrong there. If you have another tank you could try putting it by itself. It will likely eat more without competition from your other fish.

Try some frozen bloodworms. It's high in protein and you should get some good growth out of it. I feed my ebjd's bloodworms once a day along with some flakes that are high in fiber. My juvies have doubled in growth in just a couple months.

Thanks, i think ill try the frozen worms, the only thing i can think of are his eyes, the pupils are in a line shape, kinda looks like he got a lot of eye damage when he had cloudy eye.

Do you think it would be ok to take the pink kisser out and throw in another three EBJD's to try and get a pair
OR
take the pink guy out and put a green terror in of similar size

Thanks!

ps. i would post a picture but i can't figure it out... im a newbie to this site[/img]

I wouldn't put a green terror in the same tank with an EB. GT's can be agressive and the EB's get stressed relatively easy. I'd take the kisser out too. EB's will hang on the bottom if they feel threatened.
